From over a decade on the front lines of some of the world’s most complex problems, we’ve built a hard-earned reputation of helping our clients achieve impact at scale. With offices in Africa, Europe and the USA, we partner with respected institutions across the development, government and private sectors. The change we seek? Impact on the systems related to conflict and governance, food security and extreme poverty, climate change and environmental sustainability.

Our Origins
Our name, Wasafiri, means “travellers or explorers” in Swahili, and was inspired by the phrase, “Traveller, there is no path, we make the path as we walk together.” Founded in 2010 by a Rwandan, a Zambian, a Briton and an Australian, with support from the leadership development organisation Impact International, we established Wasafiri as a professional home for people committed to the lifelong adventure of tackling humanity’s toughest problems.

Our Ambition
In our hyper-connected and ever-changing world, we feel that existing approaches to leadership and governance are struggling to respond to the scale, intensity and complexity of challenges that threaten progress. Through our knowledge and consulting services, Wasafiri aims to forge new approaches and partnerships that, from the global to the local, help practically shift human and environmental systems towards a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world.

Our Organisation
We’ve always believed that businesses of all sizes have a powerful role to play in tackling such problems. We are no exception; our clients, partners, staff and consultants are all valued members of the Wasafiri tribe, and serve as vital guides for our journey of growth and impact. Together, we’re proud to have been honoured by B-Corporation in 2019 as a ‘Best for the World Company’ for helping our clients tackle deep problems such as poverty, insecurity and inequality. We’re also a committed member of the UN Global Compact, and are continuously exploring how to become a more adaptive and innovative, human-centred organisation (you can read about what we’re learning here.)

Our Experience
Since our founding we’ve worked at the heart of some of the world’s toughest problems. We’ve mitigated conflict in Afghanistan, Somalia and South Sudan. We’ve secured a fairer deal for poor countries in global climate change negotiations. We’ve forged cross-sector collaboration that is improving incomes for millions of African smallholders. And, as anyone working on these issues will know, at times we’ve been humbled, frustrated, and plain scared. We’ve also been inspired and amazed. We’ve worked alongside remarkable people leading change as civil servants, business leaders, academics, pioneers and activists. And we’ve learned a great deal about how change happens. We salute you.
