Scottish textile businesses are now able to apply for support from the launch of the Circular Textiles Fund.
Zero Waste Scotland is administering a new £2 million fund, backed by the Scottish Government to help reduce the environmental impact of textiles. The fund aims to support the development of circular supply chains in Scotland and help businesses achieve net zero.
The funding will go directly to businesses across the textiles industry in Scotland, from fashion to upholstery and industry.
Manufacturing textiles consumes finite resources and releases greenhouse gas emissions, while Zero Waste Scotland’s latest Carbon Metric report shows textiles make up four percent of waste by weight but account for nearly a third (32 percent) of the carbon impact of Scotland’s household waste.
The Circular Textiles Fund can help businesses in Scotland implement innovative circular projects to drive Scotland’s circular economy, in which resources are valued and kept in circulation for as long as possible.
Considering the impact of textiles on Scotland’s carbon footprint, it’s clear we need to support the industry in a shift to a circular solution.
Applications are open to textile businesses looking to implement a circular business model or project in Scotland, individual applications and collaborative projects are both welcomed. Applications will be assessed against their ability to:
- Accelerate a circular transition in Scotland
- Deliver economic and inclusive growth
- Reduce waste
- Reduce carbon impact
Round 1 projects must be delivered by 31 March 2023.
The minimum funding which can be applied for in one application is £25,000 and the maximum is £500,000. Full details on eligibility criteria can be found in the fund Guidance notes.
